Profile Pat Callair

What would happen
if an organization of about one hundred people
could get itself to work together
consistently with commitment, loyalty and dedication?

What an impact that organization would make!

Who We Are

The Leadership and Empowerment Institute (LEI) is a private, non-profit corporation created to train, teach and facilitate the community-building process. Our work in community building includes such core skills as conflict resolution, mediation, decision making, problem solving and group facilitation. LEI is committed to racial and social justice. Our work helps to break down racism and to create a multi-cultural society.

We help organizations, groups and individuals:

  • Honor and affirm diversity
  • Raise difficult issues with integrity
  • Resolve conflicts respectfully
  • Relate with care and compassion

What We Do

The Leadership and Empowerment Institute (LEI) conducts (1) skill-building seminars for community leaders, (2) public community-building workshops and (3) intensive, experiential training sessions. We also provide (4) consulting services.

Skill-building Seminars for Community Leaders

These 3-day “train-the-trainer” sessions help participants develop specific skills in the community-building model (based on the work of Scott Peck). These trainings are particularly appropriate for community leaders or professionals who desire to assist as facilitators for community building in their own communities.

Public Community-building Workshops

These community-building workshops and retreats typically take place over a weekend, including a Friday night session and Saturday and Sunday sessions. The workshop may be open to the public or to members of a specific organization who wish to experience a sense of community using the community-building process. Groups might include boards, churches, neighborhoods in conflict, associations and political action groups.

Intensive, Experiential Trainings

We offer four challenging and rewarding weekends a year that develop skills in community building, conflict resolution, mediation, decision making and problem solving. These sessions are designed for those who want to build their leadership skills on an ongoing basis throughout the year.

Consulting

Our professional consulting services are designed to meet the needs of specific groups, organizations or individuals. Included are organizational development, strategic planning, coaching, mentoring, stress management, family reconciliation, and advising in applied leadership skills.
