Profile: Harolyn A. Boulware
Harolyn
A. Boulware, the daughter of a civil rights attorney in
South
Carolina
grew up in an environment
that fostered a keen interest in the arts, religion and politics as it related
to social justice. As a child, her
interests in these areas were fostered in an educational climate conducive to
her learning.After earning a degree in Business Administration, she pursued a
career with the federal government and found ways to pursue her interests.
During her federal career, Ms. Boulware served on the Board of Directors
of several groups. Among them are
Hannah House, a facility that assists women who have been abused or incarcerated
become self sufficient and enter the mainstream and the Department of
Agriculture Federal Credit Union, as a member of the education committee.
She
has served as an employee counselor at the U. S. Department of Agriculture and
at the D.C. Hotline as a crisis and referral counselor and Board Member. She
also has been active in the addictions community since 1983.
In 1990, she began studying (with Dr. Stanslav and Christina Grof,
leaders in the consciouness movement in this country and in
Europe
), the practice of Holotropic
Breathwork, and earned her
certificate as a facilitator in 1994. She
conducts monthly workshops in this practice.
In 1998, she was trained by the Foundation for Community Encouragement to
facilitate
Community
Building
workshops. She has facilitated this
work work in public and private settings with many diverse groups, including
Guilford
College
in
Greensboro
,
NC., and Project Return, a program to reduce recidivism among ex-offenders in
New
Orleans
,
Louisiana
.
Mrs. Boulware, retired as Director of Budget, Finance and Administration
at the Department of Commerce in 1998 and pursues her interest in politics and
spirituality and travel. She is
divorced , the mother of her dearest loves, Patrick and Sharon Chism and lives
in a
Maryland
suburb of
Washington
,
DC
.
